Easy Summer Mocktail Recipes

Refreshing cocktails and iced coffee are a summer diet staple. But if you’re pregnant and steering clear of booze and caffeine, you’ll need some replacements that are equally thirst-quenching and tasty, if a little less intoxicating. Here are some of our tried-and-tested favourites, courtesy of four influencers who really know their mojitos from their margaritas.

Make this Starbucks dupe and you won’t even need to leave the house

@hey_renu: “It’s Iced coffee season! Here’s how to make a version of Starbucks’ iced brown sugar oat iced coffee at home (saving you money!)

Ingredients:

1 shot espresso (or decaf if you’re avoiding caffeine) @melitta_uk

2 tsp brown sugar

3/4 tsp cinnamon (optional)

half cup ice

1 cup oatmilk

Method: Add the first 4 ingredients into a jar (I use my @kilneruk shake and make jar) add the lid and then shake hard for 5 minutes until frothy. In a tall glass, add more ice, then top with the frothed espresso mix. Add oat milk then top with more milk froth to finish.”

The secret ingredient? Kids’ fruit pouches!

@Squashedpickle: “When the sun is out I make frozen mango ice cubes, by squeezing children’s fruit pouches into an ice cube mould and freezing. I then use them to top up a sparkling apple juice (or Prosecco for anyone not avoiding alcohol)! You can use these ice cubes for mocktails for the kids too…”

Trick your tastebuds with Bitters

@Themindfulmocktail: “A strawberry daiquiri mocktail omits the rum. Great replacements include some extra citrus, a non-alcoholic rum or some bitters. Any of these ingredients will give the drink that bit of kick and zing that is missing from the alcohol. Place frozen and fresh strawberries, lime juice, sweetener, such as maple syrup (if using) and a few drops of optional bitters (non-alcoholic versions are available) or non-alcoholic rum in a blender. Blend until smooth on high speed. Test the flavour and consistency. Add a little extra sweetener or lime to taste. If the consistency is too thick, add a little water. Blend again. Pour into a chilled glass and serve garnished with fresh strawberries and lime.”

Kombucha is key to this zingy mock-ito

@NourishingAmy: “For a Raspberry Lemon Kombucha Mojito you only need 5 basic ingredients: fresh raspberries (these are essential for the recipe as they muddle down at the bottom to add a pop of juiciness and fruitiness); fresh mint (for muddling with the raspberries for a fresh and herby flavour. I also like to add a sprig of mint as a stirrer at the end); freshly squeezed lemon juice (If you prefer to keep it classic, you can use lime.) and an alcohol-free spirit, such as Caleno, Pentire, Atopia or Seedlip. I really love the CleanCo 0% gin, too (linked below). Top with a Kombucha (I love Remedy Raspberry Lemonade Kombucha) and then add ice cubes to serve.”
