When would you suggest hosting a baby shower and why?
I decided to do mine fairly early at 32 weeks. I wanted to feel my best, and I’ve heard the final weeks are tough!
Where did you host your baby shower, and how did you decide on the venue?
I hosted at Coppa Club in Cobham, Surrey. On the rooftop, it was perfect! I knew I wanted a big, bright space, and when I saw the retractable roof, I knew it was perfect. We were so lucky with gorgeous weather.
What activities did you plan for your baby shower?
Good food and cake were my top priorities! I love the food at Coppa Club, so I knew it would be perfect. I also had little cupcakes made for all my guests to take home. I had chocolate-covered strawberries, little cookies, and cake pops, as well as a big cake for all of us on the day. I have a bit of a sweet tooth at the moment! I also had mimosas on tap for my guests.
I personally didn’t do any baby shower games, but I did gorgeous little cards for everyone to write down their predictions and advice cards for me and my husband to read together afterwards.
What baby shower theme and décor did you choose?
So, without giving her name away, I kind of did the decor around that! Lots of soft pinks and florals. I asked guests to wear pink or pastel spring colours.
Did you do baby shower gift bags?
I didn’t do gift bags, but I did individual cupcakes for my guests to take home instead. As a little keepsake, I asked guests to bring a childhood book they loved and write a little note to my new baby so I can read it to her and say who it’s from! I thought that would be a really cute gift and lasting memory for us.
Having organised your own celebration, what are your top five baby shower planning tips?
1. Secure your date and venue first - Then you have an idea of space and numbers, and can make sure the most important people to you are free to celebrate that day.
2. Save money by doing some of your own décor - I made my own flower arrangements. I just bought little pink roses and bunches of gypsophila and put them together myself.
3. Make a baby shower gift list – This is essential so you get things you really need and avoid any duplicate presents. I used the Mamas & Papas My Baby List online tool to create and share my gift list, which made it really simple.
4. Lean on a relative or best friend to help you plan and on the day - My best friend was amazing, making sure everyone got a cupcake and ensuring all the little prediction cards were filled out.
5. Let people know a going home time - Baby showers are exhausting. By 4pm I was ready for a bath and my pjs.
How did you find using My Baby List to create and share your baby shower gift list?
My Baby List was a DREAM! Firstly, it’s great that you can choose from a wide range of products on the Mamas & Papas website, including baby and nursery essentials, gorgeous outfits, and gift sets from their own collections, as well as from popular brands. You can also add items across a wide range of prices, so your guests won’t feel pressured to spend too much. You can really get everything you need in one place.
Finally, I loved that you get an email when someone purchases something from your list. It means you can tick it off, and it gets removed from your list, so no one else will buy you the same gift. Life saver!
Can you share your top baby shower gift requests from your My Baby List?
A newborn essential. I did my research, and this was the perfect car seat for me. My parents very kindly bought this from my list, as it was one of the more expensive gifts.
This caught my eye immediately. I had a rocking horse when I was younger, and I could have cried at how cute it was! My friend kindly gifted us this.
Another essential and super cute! I added different sizes; newborn and up to one month, in case she’s little on arrival.
Because is there anything better than a newborn in a soft, pure white baby grow?
Another essential which will come in very handy when she’s teething.
For her first baths, I really can’t wait to wrap her up in this snuggly soft set.
Just because of the pure cuteness of it. An adorable first summer outfit for her.
