As a parent, you get so used to your little one dining exclusively on milk, you almost forget they need to upgrade to solid food. But whether you go for standard weaning or the baby-led variety, a safe, supportive start should help mealtimes to go smoothly. And with our Snax Highchair, we do our best to make that happen. Patrizia and Koda gave it a whirl to see if it could help them to wean in comfort.
Starting to wean Koda is something that was daunting enough but add in the fact we need a highchair in a flat that isn’t the biggest, I was anxious about how it was all going to work. The Snax Highchair solved so many potential issues.
The Highchair can go from a fully sized, fully functional highchair to a small, slender item that can be placed behind a door or the corner of the kitchen. With its adjustable height and back positions, the chair made our baby-led weaning experience as smooth as possible. At first Koda just didn’t know what to do with the food, but due to the comfort of the chair he would sit there trying to figure it out for a long time without getting uncomfortable or irate.
Its fully-detachable slide-on table top is incredibly easy and hassle free to put Koda in to the chair and secure him in with the 3-way clasp. Once he is secure, you simply slide the table top back on to the chair, in one of the desired three positions.
As you can imagine, an easy to clean highchair takes the stress out of weaning. Another plus point of the detachable table top is that you can detach it and take it over the sink and clean it with minimal fuss/mess, great when coupled with the easy clean chassis which can be easily wiped down.
Cleaning Koda is also something that could have been an ordeal had it not been for the Long Sleeved Bibs. It has a full apron effect with full length sleeves and covers all of Kodas front, meaning that any food that falls rarely goes on his trousers and never on his tops/sleeves. The sleeves are closed cuff meaning that food won’t find itself all down his arms. It is easy to clean due to its easy wipe torso and sleeves, however the folds of the cuff where the material changes can be a bit more awkward to clean and can stain.
An added bonus is that the chair has a small net hold-all at the rear which is perfect for keeping our cupboards free and putting Kodas matching dinner set dishes in, so they are easy to grab and use when necessary. We used the cutlery when possible as they are very tactile for Koda and he loves to try and use them but as we are doing baby-led weaning, we won’t really be using the cutlery until later on. We didn’t use the bowl as much, as we tend to use suction bowls but as this one doesn’t have that, it resulted in bowls and food on the floor. Another point we noticed, was that the plate doesn’t actually fit on the middle/narrower part of the slide on table top, it would only fit on the two ends so this didn’t make it easy for him or us to feed him.
Whilst the functions of the highchair are great, the only negative point I would mention is the building of it. The instructions are minimal and there was one point where my husband and I were completely perplexed about how some of it was put together. I think the main issue was that the instructions were only diagrams with no verbal instructions which made certain parts unclear.
Overall, the Snax Highchair eased the burden of weaning Koda by providing somewhere comfortable and safe for him to take his time and learn how to eat. He never causes a fuss when being put in the chair and now looks forward to the regime of highchair, bib on and cutlery on his table because he knows food is to follow.
Mealtime success! We’re glad that Koda and Patrizia are able to embrace the fun of baby-led weaning, while still feeling comfortable and supported thanks to the Snax Highchair. If you’re in the market for a highchair, then we’ve got plenty of options to choose from, plus booster seats and floor seats – all to help baby get used to sitting up and tucking in.
