Emma Lewis' Mia Nursery Reivew

Emma brought her nursery to life with the help of our Mia Classic furniture collection.

When you're creating a nursery, the world is your oyster. You need to decided whether to good modern and minimal or traditional and detailed. You might even decide to mix it up. However, the one thing that makes it harder to visualise your dream nursery is space. If you don't have a lot of it, it can be hard to know what to do. Thankfully, we understand that every parent's home is different, so we create different furniture to suit different spaces. Emma from our Parent Approved Panel wanted to create the perfect nursery despite having a tiny room to work with, was the Mia Classic furniture up to the challenge?

When Mamas & Papas got in touch to look at some nursery furniture for Zac, I was honestly a little concerned about measurements. Zac’s room is roughly 2 x 2m; a typical box room and teeny tiny! I didn’t want to crowd the room, but also wanted to make it a cosy but functional space for him. After taking a look at all the beautiful ranges, I came across the Mia Classic Cot Bed with Storage and Changer Top. It was exactly what I was looking for; space saving, multi-purpose and gorgeous!

We took delivery a few days later and found that it was incredibly well packaged. The DIY instructions were very clear, even including a handy scale printed inside allowing you to measure up which screws to use at each step, something other flat pack furniture doesn’t tend to include and made the building process easier. I like to think of myself as a bit of a flat pack queen and this my friends, was the easiest furniture I’ve ever put together.

The Cotbed itself has two adjustable heights, giving you easy access to your baby while offering more safety than drop-side cots. Each side also has two teething guards; something I was really happy to see after my eldest gnawed away at her cot as a baby, leaving tiny marks everywhere and me constantly worrying about her eating the peeling paint! Zac’s pearly whites will be protected (as will his cot!) and I won’t be panicking every time he’s left alone in there. As he grows, we can convert it into a toddler bed as well, making this a piece of furniture that will last well beyond his first year or two.

The cotbed package comes with a handy Cot Top Changer too. It simply rests atop the cot (with a loop tag to keep it secure) and is compatible with any of Mamas & Papas changing mats. We had the Luxury Changing Mattress in grey from the Welcome to the World collection and I mean, it even has a pillow! The bar along the front is excellent for hanging a blanket or planning tomorrow’s outfit and it’s the perfect height to see to your baby. Having a dedicated spot to change Zac makes it so much easier and means even though he has a tiny room, we can do a full bedtime routine in one space.

Being such a small room, storage is key. The last of the 3 in 1 feature is the Under Cotbed Drawer. It’s slightly smaller than the cot width and depth so fits perfectly underneath. A divider gives you two compartments inside and the castors allow it to pull out quickly and quietly. This a fantastic feature and gives you so much space to organise your baby essentials. I’ve popped all our nappies and wipes in for the moment and I’ve still got loads of space left. We also had the matching Desser/Changer from the collection, which give you really deep drawers, a handy bar on either side (much like the changer top) and when Zac starts pulling himself up, we can move the changing mat to the top of the drawers instead. The changer addition can be easily removed, leaving you with a chest of drawers you could use anywhere in your house.

As far as the interiors go, as soon as I saw the Circus Print Sheets I was sold! With bike riding bears, juggling elephants and zebras jumping through hoops, I loved how whimsical and fun they were. The two pack came with a grey and white striped sheet too and are so, so soft! We had the matching sleeping bags as well which  are such good quality, and I finished the cot off with the yellow and white Knitted Cloud Cushion; perfect for any nursery! We added the Geo Weave Rug to the floor to keep the room cosy and add a pop of colour.

Lastly, I knew I wanted a gallery wall and as soon as I saw the Lion Head Wall Art, I knew he had to be mine. ‘Leonard’ now hangs proudly amongst some other gorgeous pieces, including the Shower Me With Love print and the White Cloud Shelves and Coat Hook Set. Everything we received was of top quality and completely beautiful.

I’m so pleased how Zac’s room turned out and that it’s a colourful, fun space for him to grow in. If you have a small space for your little one, I can’t recommend the Mia Classic Cot Bed package enough. It comes in two lovely colours that would go with any palette you choose and the 3 in 1 feature means you don’t have to sacrifice functionality for a stunning nursery.

We're thrilled that Emma liked our Mia Classic Cot Package and that with the help of our nursery interiors range, we could create the perfect first bedroom for baby Zac! Plus with ingenious little switches like our Cot Top Changer, we helped her to make the most of the space she had.
