Hollie Evelyn's Pancakes for Weaning Babies

Pancake Day is definitely one of the best day's of the year and is something the majority of us look forward to. We know it can be hard finding the perfect pancake recipe for your little one, but hopefully Hollie Evelyn's Pancakes for Weaning Babies will be your saviour this pancake day!

I’ve been waiting for this day all month. Where those bowls of cereal and slices of toast get put on the bench and Nutella, Bananas and stacks of Pancakes jump in and completely win over the breakfast game.

I’m a firm believer that Pancake Day should be once a week. Thankfully having a 10 month old means it kind-of-almost-is. Pancakes are actually a brilliant weaning recipe and there are so many varieties to try!

Fluffy Banana Pancakes

Archie’s favourites are fluffy banana pancakes which call for 1 ripe banana, 1 egg and a few teaspoons of flour. I simply whisk it all together and fry a few tablespoons of the batter in coconut oil, then I flip and fry for a further minute or two and then serve. If you cut the pancakes into strips you then have the perfect baby finger food, and they are soft enough for even the gummiest babies. Please note when making pancakes, parents are required to eat a few too… you know, for tasting purposes only of-course, mmm.

Banana pancakes are a super nutritious meal or snack. I always sneak in different fruits or flavours into the mix, like raspberries and blueberries. They are a healthy topping, or a great addition mixed into the batter for those little taste buds.

Traditional Pancakes

Today we’ve opted for a traditional proper pancake recipe which you just can’t beat. Whether you have them smothered in Nutella or sprinkled with sugar and a squeeze of lemon, you’ll want to save this recipe for those pancake craving moments. For toddlers you could set up a little “pancake station” with jams, fruits and anything else you fancy. For weaning babies it’s best to keep it simple, so today Archie is having his with banana and peanut butter.

Savoury pancakes are always hiding in the shadows. If you add in some cream cheese, feta or cheddar into the mix along with a little smoked salmon or ham and you’ve now got pancakes as a lunch too.

Traditional Pancake Recipe

You will need:

-1 Egg
-50g Plain Flour
-140ml Milk
-1 Tsp Coconut oil (or your usual oil to try)
-Toppings

Method:

  1. Simply pop the flour and egg into a bowl and gradually whisk in the milk until smooth.
  2. Heat a frying pan on a medium/high heat and pour in the mix until you have the size pancake that suits you.
  3. Cook for a few minutes or until you can edge a spatula underneath and go for that flip that you’ve been practicing each year…
  4. Fry until lightly golden and serve with whatever toppings that float your boat.
  5. For our little foodies I either spread on some toppings, roll the pancake up and chop into handy pieces. Or you can get creative and use cookie cutters to make some fun shapes.

Happy Pancake Day!
